SOUTH PÄIJÄNNE’S NATURE

South Päijänne’s nature is dominated by Finland’s second largest lake and the most significant source of clean water, Lake Päijänne, from which over one million Finns get their drinking water. Lake Päijänne surrounds the three municipalities of the region: Asikkala, Padasjoki and Sysmä. Furthermore, hundreds of smaller lakes, spectacular glacial ridges and Päijänne National Park’s sandy coves and islets can be found in the region.

A treasure for nature lovers, Päijänne National Park is located in southern Lake Päijänne and includes around fifty islands and islets. At the very heart of the national park is Kelvenne, one of the largest and most handsome esker islands in Finland.

During the summer season a number of cafés and restaurants operate at the Lake Vesijärvi Marina. At the marina you can also find some of the most interesting sights in Lahti: Sibelius Hall and the “Pro Puu” Gallery.
